This Tripod is also a Protective Case for Your Point-and-Shoot Camera
It’s only a small step for mankind but, since I’m a photo enthusiast, I can’t resist bringing you this wrap-up protective case that’s a tripod at the same time. It also looks like the perfect companion for the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj camera with its built-in projector.
Why It’s Clever
I can imagine some of you thinking: “Why would I need a tripod?” Well, you need it when you want to take pictures in low-light settings where the camera uses slow shutter speeds and where you’d get blurred pictures without a tripod. Sound familiar? You need one when you want to take a picture of yourself (your face, not your feet) with friends, using your camera’s self-timer. And finally, you need a tripod when you want to project your photos or movies onto the wall using the same camera that you used to take them. Yes, the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj has a built-in projector, and others will surely follow. I can’t imagine how anyone can get a decent projection without a tripod.
In summary, with the Nikon and this tripod you have a photo camera, a basic video camera, a projector and a tripod all in one small, light package.
Summary
- Protective case doubles as tripod
- Light and compact, ideal for traveling
- Could be used for projection as well
- Stays put permanently
- Velcro closure
- Fits most compact cameras no thicker than 1" (2.5 cm), so should fit the Nikon
- Tripod measures approximately 3.5" (L; 9 cm) x 0.7" x (W; 1.9 cm) x 0.2" (D; 0.5 cm).
Tips
If your camera’s tripod socket is all the way to the side, you should check whether this case will still fit. Ask the supplier if in doubt.
Looking at the specs, it should be compatible with the Nikon S1000pj, but we haven't tested it ourselves. Same here, ask your supplier!
This is a basic tripod. For more serious indoor or outdoor work, better adjustable and portable tripods are available. But for the occasional snapshot, a basic one will do just fine.
Where to buy
I’ve found it on http://www.firebox.com and Amazon.com, and you’ll probably find other sources as well with some searching.
