Care Plus Click-Away – Stop Mosquito Bites From Itching
Everyone has his or her own – usually ineffective – household remedy to ease the itching from mosquito bites. Among the things that do work are cortisone-based creams. They’re very effective, though they can be greasy and stain your clothes. But the Click-Away from Care Plus is incredibly compact and light, doesn’t need batteries and does what it’s supposed to do: stop the itching.
Why It’s Clever and Easy
We’ve been trying out several products to ease the itching from mosquito bites and other insect bites – during some traveling to mosquito-infested areas, my personal record was 38 bites on a single night when they caught me off guard. There are some creams that are cortisone-based and that work remarkably well. Other itch relief products are based on plant extracts and are also effective to a certain extent. But what’s always put me off is that most are sticky and you need to apply them underneath your clothing, which can cause stains and which also requires you to remove your clothes to do so – offering the bloodsuckers a great opportunity for another blood transfusion attempt.
So we’ve been looking at other solutions, such as the ItchZapper and Heated Itch Relief, which use heat to neutralize the insect proteins that cause the itching. Although they might work fine, they need batteries and are as big and heavy as a tube of cortisone cream (every ounce counts, you know).
Then we stumbled upon the Click-Away. This device uses a piezoelectric crystal to generate an electric impulse when you press a button – just like the spark in a cigarette lighter. Applying it to an insect bite should halt the production of histamine in the body. What’s really great is that this piezoelectric principle means the device doesn’t need batteries, making it extremely light, compact and lasting.
Our experience?
Last vacation, we took it with us. Each time we were bitten by a mosquito, we applied it to our skin directly on the bite.
The procedure: Click five times (it feels like a short electric impulse), and be patient for a few minutes. If there’s no result after a few minutes, start the procedure over again.
The result: The itching did go away – almost every time. I’m not a good guinea pig for this, since I manage to avoid scratching anyhow, which is almost as effective as any remedy. My wife was the benchmark for this test. Generally, she manages to turn any mosquito bite into a bloody mess, but this vacation she came back “undamaged.”
It should work for other insect bites and even jellyfish stings too, but since we didn’t end up getting bitten by anything else, we tested it against only mosquito bites.
