Compact Folding Table Hides Behind a Picture
When you’re tight on space, but you don’t want to take it as far as the ultra-compact Matroshka furniture set, other great solutions can be found. This folding picture table from Ivydesign is very elegant and original, yet remains a real-life solution to your space problems. When you need it, it’s a table; when you don’t, it’s a picture – with no trace left of the table it used to be.
Why It’s Clever
I’ve seen many extreme solutions for tight-spaced living, solutions that can be conceptually stunning, but that make you wonder if anyone’s really willing to use them. This picture table, however, is very practical and elegant at the same time.
One side is attached to the wall with a hinge, while the other side has two foldable legs. It sits four people for eating (five if needed), working, or doing whatever you need to do. When finished, you can simply fold the table against the wall. The bottom of the table surface is a picture frame that contains any poster or picture you like. The two legs fold against the surface and become part of the frame. No trace left of your folding table – instead you’re left with a framed picture on your wall. I would use that, wouldn’t you?
The concept of a table that folds against the wall isn’t new, of course. But as far as I know, this one is the first that looks good when folded, while the previous designs made you feel that you were living in your motorhome.

Tips
It‘s also available as a mirror table – and you can probably convert your picture table into a mirror table too, by replacing the glass with a mirror if you feel like a change one day.
I also found matching folding chairs on the Internet – very nice too – but after I saw the price of the table, I didn’t have the courage to find out the chairs’ prices.

Where to buy
It’s not clear whether it’s on the market yet, but I’ve read that the price might be around $1,400 – which is not exactly the price level of motorhome furniture! The Handy Andy among you might consider spending a weekend building your own.
Approx. price: $1,400 (January 2010)
