Orbita Launches a Radically New Mouse Concept for Heavy Scrollers

I was the owner of a wheel mouse for quite some time before I realized just how many unnecessary mouse movements I could save while scrolling through documents. Today, I can't do without it.
Some manufacturers, such as Logitech, later introduced an additional improvement to the wheel mouse in the form of a right-left movement function, allowing you to shift the info on your screen left or right without having to click on any scroll bars. And for the average user, this might be enough. But for those who need to do a lot of scrolling through video footage, 3D graphical design packages, very large spreadsheets, or just have fun with Google Earth or games, Orbita has really been thinking out of the box to come up with a radical new mouse design.

What's This? Why It’s Clever

What’s that thing in the picture? A cheeseburger for robots? Nope, it's really a mouse, but a very different one. You're looking at the wireless Orbita mouse in its docking station. The Orbita is a mouse that you can move on your desk like any other mouse, but it can also freely rotate 360 degrees for zooming and scrolling actions. In whatever direction you end the rotation, you can "reset its compass" to point up again and continue working normally.
It features a push button and a series of "squeeze buttons", which give a right click.
The more we write about it, the less you'll see what we mean, so watching this video might be the fastest path to enlightenment:

Summary

  • Completely new mouse design for heavy scrollers
  • Continuous and smooth, vertical and horizontal scrolling
  • Ergonomic design
  • Wireless & rechargeable
  • Functions and buttons can be SW mapped.

Tips

The "Applications" tab on the Orbita website will give you additional insight into examples of how and applications for which it can be used.

When RSI or carpal tunnel syndrome is your problem - due to continuous working with a mouse - you could consider the NoHands Mouse in stead of the Orbita.

Where to buy

You can buy the Orbita mouse from the Amazon.com website.

Approx. price: $70 (February 2010)
