iPhone Universal Remote Control
So you have an iPhone, or an iPod Touch. You want a protective case for it? Of course you do. You have remote controls in your home? Of course you do. Why not combine everything and use this protective case to turn your iPhone or iPod Touch into a universal remote control, tossing all those different remotes into the bottom of the drawer?
Why It’s Clever
I wouldn’t buy an iPhone without a protective case, I’ve seen too many people in tears (well, not really, but almost) after they’ve dropped theirs on a hard surface. This protective case really looks interesting, since it doesn’t only protect your iPhone against scratches and other damage. It also turns it into an infrared (IR) remote control for all your audio and video equipment. It comes with a free app that turns your iPhone or iPod Touch screen into a remote-control-like user interface. Once you’ve taught it how to send all the commands of your regular remotes, you can put them in a faraway drawer and unclutter your coffee table.
I can also imagine some professional applications for mobile people who need to operate a lot of different devices during work.
The commercial shows how it works.

Tips
If you have a new iPhone model, it would be best to check out how this keeps up with the slight changes in iPhone design. If in doubt, you could consider an alternative solution (there are several around) that depends less on the external dimensions.
It’s a learning remote control, meaning that you will need the original remote to teach it each and every command. We’ve also read a report about a weak infrared signal, but it hasn’t been confirmed whether this is an isolated issue. You can read here how you can improve the infrared reception angle of your devices, if that might help.
Where to buy
You can buy it from Amazon.com, where you can also find a few alternative remote-control solutions for your iPhone, such as this L5 model.
Approx. price: $35 (July 2010)
