Cable Capture Organizes Your Cable Clutter

Cables are always too long and too short at the same time. Too short when you need that few inches of extra reach, and too long for the rest of the time, when they’re just lying in your way. Several elegant solutions exist, such as the SimpleToo or the Cord-It, that enable you to roll cables up until they’re the exact length you need. These are very elegant when you just need to get one cable under control, but if you’re fighting real cable clutter such as in your home office, the Cable Capture cable organizer looks more promising.

As I said, there are several elegant and low-cost cable organizing solutions available that can handle a single power cord. For instance, the SimpleToo cable organizer sells for about $2 and is simple and efficient at shortening, for instance, your lamp’s power cord.

A bit more sophisticated are solutions such as the Cord-It, which you can rotate to make the cable shorter and longer when you need it, making it more flexible for non-static applications. Insert the cord, twist the top, and the clutter is gone.

The really good news is that the Cord-It now sells for about the same price as the SimpleToo cable organizer above. The bad news is that it’s still no real solution to an overwhelming cable mess such as you might encounter in your home office. Having 15–20 of these Cord-Its lying around on your desk is still not my idea of a clean desk.

What's This? Why It’s Clever

That’s why the Cable Capture is really smart. You can buy a single unit and use it in a similar fashion to the products above. Use it to roll up the cable and then cover the cable to give it a cleaner look.

So far so good. But what makes it unique is that you can stack them, and that’s where they make the difference in a home office environment. One or two such stacks, and all your cables are neatly organized. Need to take one cable with you? That’s still possible – you can detach that one from the stack and take it with you.

Can’t get any better? Yes it can! They even have a docking unit that allows you to attach the stack of Cable Captures under or on top of your desk, so it’s not lying around on the floor when you need to vacuum your office.

Summary

  • Cable organizer Holds excess cable, making it the exact length you need
  • Can be stacked
  • Each cable can be individually taken out of a stack
  • Docking unit to attach the stack to your desk or other furniture
  • Ideal for home office.

Tips

Be careful with more sophisticated cables such as coaxial antenna cables or other shielded cables such as high-end audio or video cables. They don’t like to be bent too sharply, so you might want to avoid solutions such as the Cord-It for those, or at least check the manuals before doing so.

If your problem is mainly about charging cables, you can check out these various multi-charger solutions to get rid of that clutter

Finally, here's another great idea, using a standard clip to take control of your cables (from observando):
